When in the Hungarian capital, don't miss the most popular dishes of Hungarian cuisine! Especially on cold, winter days, a goulash soup rich in vegetables and beef or a tasty fish soup can be a treat. Stew, cottage cheese noodle, Hortobágy pancakes, letcho, chicken paprikash, and stuffed cabbage are also classic bucket-list favorites.

Vén Hajó Restaurant
This restaurant is a real curiosity, as you can enjoy classic and seasonal Hungarian dishes, as well as wine specialties and cocktail delights on an old ship with a beautiful panoramic view of the Danube. The steamship Kossuth was built in 1913 in the Ganz-Danubius shipyard in Újpest for the Royal Hungarian River Navigation Company, under the name of Archduke Ferdinand. It was subsequently renamed several times. In 1953, she was fitted with a deck heating system in Újpest, when she acquired her present layout. The renovation and conversion into a museum ship began in 1984, the hull was renewed in 2000 and the entire interior in 2004. Its museum-style interiors, with several levels connected by staircases, make the restaurant truly unique.
The Magyar Restaurant
Located in the Buda Castle, the restaurant evokes the gastronomic experience of the early 20th century immortalized in Gyula Krúdy’s classic "Sinbad" novels. The Hungarian cuisine of yesteryear is presented in a 21st century way, preserving the traditional flavors while making the dishes lighter. The wine list features only Hungarian specialties that are not available elsewhere - or only in limited quantities.
Menza Restaurant and Café
One of Liszt Ferenc Square's most popular restaurants (it’s wise to book a table in advance!) is winning the hearts of guests by reinventing classic dishes. The menu includes delicious Hungarian beef stew as well as burgers. But the rich broth poured onto the meat and vegetables from a large pot is downright legendary.
